Flashmob at the Fairmont – Invitation
You are invited to join Rachel Hore in a choral flashmob for part of the closing ceremony to the Public Health Palliative Care International Conference (PHPCI2019) in October, 2019.
Wednesday 16th October between 3pm and 5pm
There will be one rehearsal with Rachel in the Blue Mountains on Saturday 12th October, from 4pm-6pm. Venue for the rehearsal is the Santa Maria Centre, 253 Great Western Hwy, Lawson.
You will be preparing 3 songs that have been chosen by Rachel for the event. If you join us, you will be given access to a drop box of Mp3’s of your parts.
Who can join?
Anyone in the Blue Mountains community who likes to sing and can learn a part by ear or with a score, and join us for the rehearsal.
Co-hosted by Western Sydney University and The GroundSwell Project, PHPCI2019: Compassionate Communities in Action: Re-claiming Ageing, Dying and Grieving will be held 13 and 16th October at the Fairmont Resort & Spa, Leura.
This conference will draw together activists, academics and artists who are working to change how we die, and how we plan for death, and so that everyone has a compassionate community to call on at the end of life and through bereavement.
As well as typical conference components like panels and workshops, this event will include a dynamic community arts festival (From the Brink) open to the public at large. The edges of our conference will be porous, too, with the aim of drawing community members into this critical conversation at key moments.
As part of the extra-curricular aspects of the conference, a choir of delegates will be invited to rehearse each morning under the direction of Rachel Hore OAM. A suite of three carefully chosen original songs is being arranged for SATB and conference participants will be encouraged to learn these songs in preparation for a performance at the closing event of the conference.
Here’s where YOU come in.
We want members of the Blue Mountains choral community to join this finale, in the form of a flash mob. Lend your voices, unexpectedly, to our closing ceremony, in a manner that truly epitomises the spirit and the vision of this conference as a movement for building community and fomenting social change.
